About Us
Hansori at UCI was formed in 2002 by four former students. Inspired by Kim Duk Soo's Samulnori performance at the Barclay Theater, Hansori was created to spread Korean cultural awareness at UC Irvine. The organization strives to preserve traditional Korean culture through the practice of traditional Korean drumming, known as Poongmul. Hansori members learn and practice Korean percussion music that is performed by four traditional Korean instruments, representing four different weather components - thunder, rain, clouds, and wind. We hold practices throughout the school year and perform both on-campus and off-campus events as a performance group.
