Subject: Guest Speaker Dr. Jaeggi Recap! UP NEXT: Resume Workshop (1/26)

“Science is a team experience”

Hello everyone and thank you to those of you who joined us for Dr. Jaeggi’s presentation!
For those of you who were unable to attend, here are some of the main takeaways from today’s meeting:

About Dr. Jaeggi’s Lab:

  • Most of Dr. Jaeggi’s Working Memory and Plasticity Lab includes using game development as a way of assessing cognitive abilities. The goal of the lab is to investigate how individual differences affect the progress made through these game trainings as well as the functional and structural changes that occur within the brain as patients undergo these trainings.

  • Dr. Jaeggi’s favorite project was a brain training project that included 30,000 participants from around the world to understand why certain conditions work for some people but not others. See more about this project here!

Dr. Jaeggi’s Advice:

  • Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors! We know it can be difficult, especially during the pandemic, but most professors love to talk about their research and are more than willing to talk to students.

  • Start by reaching out to TAs, most of them are involved in labs and can help answer whatever questions you may have

  • Get involved, research experience is key. Dr. Jaeggi was inspired to study her field through an independent research project

  • The most critical skill to develop, according to Dr. Jaeggi, is curiosity. Other things to consider include coding, communication, and teamwork.
