Abstract:
The quality of care in pediatric medicine can be improved using tools from statistical, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms/models. In this talk, we will address recent improvements in the quality of care at CHOC that were achieved through the application of statistical learning algorithms. These examples will cover practical considerations for the deployment of models of any complexity, development of corresponding interventions, and challenges in estimating causal relationships between improvement in care and model-based clinical interventions. Furthermore, we will discuss some practical challenges in the application of data science that may require new theoretical or empirical solutions, or the broader application of recent developments in statistical learning.
