A series featuring guest speakers—including members of our faculty and alumni community—for engaging conversations on academic success, career paths, bar exam preparation, and more. This event is intended for current LL.M. and J.D. students at UCI Law.

This year, Global Programs welcomes Mei Tsang to UCI Law. A partner at Umberg/Zipser LLP, Mei is the head of the intellectual property practice group, which focuses on helping clients formulate their IP strategy, and shepherding their IP through various business cycles to achieve their business goals worldwide. Mei has substantial experience in patent and trademark portfolio development, and in all aspects of IP enforcement, including negotiation, licensing, and litigation at various courts at the federal, state, and administrative levels. Her clients also depend on her multicultural background and language abilities (Mandarin and Cantonese) to help them expand and navigate their IP strategy worldwide. She also serves as outside in-house counsel for many of her clients.

Being involved in the legal community is a core value for Mei, who currently serves the President Elect of the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA). She was recognized by Connected Women of Influence as Woman Breaking Barriers Awards. She was also recognized by Orange County Women Lawyers Association for its Everyday Hero award. Recently she was awarded as the Top 10 DEI Champion by the Orange County Coalition for Diversity in the Law.

Mei received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Purdue University (1997), and her JD from University of Illinois (2004). She has an International Law Certificate from the University of London, School of Law.

Mei is a Chinese immigrant and speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese. She has two active sons, one in baseball, and one in ballroom dancing with her graphic designer husband, Steve. They love being in Orange County enjoying the riches this county has to offer, and also love to travel around the world and learn new things.
