Come learn about Enssaf (“justice”), a California-based Sikh and Punjabi human rights organization, and the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a Punjabi Sikh human rights defender and hero who lost his own life by drawing attention to the scores of disappeared and murdered Sikh civilians during the counterinsurgency period in 1990s Punjab, India. This event is part of a conference called, "1984 Sikh Genocide: Resilience, Resistance and Reverberations Forty Years On," which commemorates 1984 and its aftermaths and sheds light on state impunity and the unanswered search for justice and accountability and healing among the Sikh community. A participatory discussion of the film will be moderated by Sukhman Dhami from Ensaaf and UCI Department of Anthropology graduate students. The entire UCI community is welcome to come!

Co-Sponsors: Ensaaf, UCI Sikh Studies, UCI Anthropology and School of Social Sciences
