Brown Bag Theatre Company presents "Real Women Have Curves," written by Josefina Lopez and directed by Bridgette Betanzos.Set in a tiny sewing factory in East L.A., this is the story of five Mexican-American women who are racing to meet nearly impossible production deadlines in order to keep their tiny factor from going under. To be more specific, this story is told from the perspective of the youngest employee at the factory, Ana, who not only highlights her own set of family expectations and aspirations for herself that clash with one another but also her journey to understanding the community of hardworking women around her. Alongside their work, these women talk about their husbands and lovers, their children, and their dreams for the future. Ultimately, this play is a microcosm of the Latina immigrant experience and gender politics that celebrates real women's bodies, the power of women, and the incredible bond that happens when women work together. This production is free to the public [or pay what you can] and will be performed in The Little Theatre from May 31 to June 2! Don't miss the opportunity to witness this outstanding production about first generation struggle, generational expectations and gender politics, and women empowerment in the Latine community.
