LinkedIn Profile Workshop Recap! UP NEXT: Guest Speaker Dr. Jaeggi and Movie Night!

Hello Everyone!

Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for our LinkedIn Profile Workshop. We will be sending out some useful resources that were mentioned during the workshop in our upcoming weekend newsletter. For those who were unable to attend today, here are some important tips from Princeton Review's Grad Program Market Manager, Kristine Cather:

1. Pay Attention to the Little Details

  • Employers will notice if you put effort into the little details of your LinkedIn Profile. This can include but is not limited to your profile picture, background image, and even a customized page URL.

2. Descriptions: 

  • Take some time to look at profiles that are in your field of interest and observe how they present their "Headline" and "About" sections.  
  • Also, take advantage of all the spaces provided for you to paint a fuller picture of yourself. 
3. Recommendations:
  • Start forming relationships with professors, former employers, and peers so that you have people to turn to when it comes to writing recommendations on your LinkedIn Profile. 
  • Also start using your profile to connect with professionals in your field of interest, and set up information meetings with them so you can start building a network of contacts and hopefully get recommended for an opening they might know of.

Join us next Tuesday (1/19) at 7:00pm for a presentation by our guest speaker Dr. Jaeggi! Dr. Susanne Jaeggi has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Cognitive Science and is an Associate Professor in UCI's School of Education. There she directs the Working Memory and Plasticity Lab which investigates differences in the capacity and limitations of working memory and executive control among individuals. During our meeting, she will go more in-depth about her research and significant discoveries and can answer any questions you may have relating to neuroplasticity and her lab. RSVP today!

Saturday Movie Night!(1/16)

Grab your popcorn, drink, blanket, and existentialism, and join us this Saturday at 7:00 pm for movie night! We will be screening the 2010 film Inception and follow up with a little discussion. This event will take place via our CSA discord server, so be sure to become a member of our server if you aren't already. RSVP today. We hope to see you there!

UCI Cognitive Science Colloqium - This is a student-run speaker series on various hot topics in cognitive science. This series is more aimed toward graduate students so don't worry if some words/concepts sound like Latin

Cognitive Science Research Labs - A list of all the research/labs being done in the cognitive science program. A great place to find labs that you'd be interested in partaking in! 

Psych Research List - A website with a compiled list of internship opportunities and grad school information for psych and cog sci students.
