Hello everyone!

Thank you to everyone who made it out to our UROP workshop this past week! In case you missed it, here are some of the topics that were discussed during the workshop:

WHY RESEARCH? - Research is a chance to learn more and broaden/deepen your knowledge in a field you're interested in. It's also an opportunity to pursue things outside of your major that interest you.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Expect typically about 12-15 hours of work a week and a commitment of a minimum of a school year.

HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED IN RESEARCH?

Talk to professors whose research interests you:
- Visit office hours
- Look at faculty research profiles
- Read some of their papers
Figure out the sort of research you want to do
REMEMBER: Faculty are interested in people that want to work with them!

HOW CAN UROP HELP YOU IN YOUR RESEARCH JOURNEY?
UROP can guide you through the process of getting involved in research by:

Holding LIVE WORKSHOPS to help you get familiar with UROP/the research process.
Supporting you with funding during the Fall or Spring Quarter, OR with SURP (Summer Undergraduate Research Program)
Giving you opportunities to share your research with the UROP Symposium
Offering drop-in hours for guidance.

UP NEXT: Choosing Courses in Cognitive Science (Week 7)!

Join us on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:00 pm in Social Ecology II room 1306 for our next meeting, Choosing Courses in Cognitive Science! During this meeting, we'll be going over what courses the PSYCH/COGSCI department will be offering during the WINTER 2023 quarter, and we'll provide some loose guidelines for what courses to choose depending on your specific interests. We'll also provide resources to help you pick and organize your schedule for the next quarter. This is a perfect opportunity to come with any questions about courses next quarter and to hear feedback from members who have taken courses you're interested in. RSVP today!
