Hello Everyone!
Thank you to everyone who made it out to our welcome-back meeting this week! It was great to meet all of those in attendance. In case you missed some of the information we covered, here's a quick recap of some of the important takeaways from this meeting:
What is the CSA?
The Cognitive Science Association is a student-led organization that aims to create a tight-knit community with those interested in cognitive science at UCI. Our mission is to connect members with the resources to succeed in their academic and career goals, and introduce our members to various topics within cognitive science through guest speakers and discussions.
Advocating
The CSA can also support you in advocating for change within your major. If you feel there is something wrong or lacking in your major, the CSA can assist you in issuing formal complaints and setting up meetings with our advisors, Dr. Steyvers and Dr. Richards, and other significant staff. Please note, however, that the CSA board members will not "do your dirty work" and that you and your peers must be the ones spearheading the issue.
How to Get Involved
Looking for ways to get more involved within the CSA community? Apply for our board-led CSA committees! The CSA has a wide range of committees, each with different responsibilities that allow the CSA to connect and grow. For more information on each individual committee OR to apply to a committee, check out our CSA committee form under "Surveys & Forms" in campusgroups (also linked below).
Events for the Quarter
This quarter, CSA meetings will be held bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 6:00pm in Social Ecology II room 1306 (unless specified otherwise). Get ready for the exciting events that we have lined up for you this quarter!
Week 3: Research Involvement Event
Week 5: UROP Workshop
Week 7: Choosing Courses in Cognitive Science
Week 9: Movie Night!
For more information on any of the topics above, or to ask any questions, feel free to email us at cogsciassoc@gmail.com.

The Research Involvement Event will feature a panel of undergraduate students who are currently involved as research assistants in various labs at UCI. They will be sharing their experiences finding and working in a lab, and they'll provide advice on how you can identify your research interests. You'll also have the opportunity to chat with these research assistants following the panel, as well as the CSA advisors, Dr. Virginia Richards and Dr. Mark Steyvers, who will be in attendance. Refreshments will be provided. RSVP today! We hope to see you there!
