Continuing our year long program, Classical Drama Reimagined, the New Swan Shakespeare Center and UCI Illuminations invite you to an exclusive conversation with Sam Crane, award-winning co-director of the 2024 film GRAND THEFT HAMLET. Join us as we follow two out-of-work actors attempting to stage Hamlet inside the virtual world of Grand Theft Auto. Hailed as “the year’s funniest documentary” by Time Out, this SXSW-winning documentary is chaotic, hilarious, and just a little bit insane. At this event, we'll hear about the inspiration behind this experimental Shakespeare adaptation and the process of mounting such a distinctive production, all while engaging with highlights from the film. Joining via Zoom, Sam Crane will speak to us live from the UK.

GRAND THEFT HAMLET is an independent film produced by Project 1961, directed by Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls. Sam Crane, our special guest, is an English actor and filmmaker working across the media of theatre, film, television, and video games.
