May 15 : Let the Right One In (Tomas Alfredson 2008) In a working class suburb of Stockhold in the 1980s, Oskar is bullied by his schoolmates and neglected by his divorced parents. He finally makes a friend who is charming and reclusive. She becomes Oskar’s source of strength as the bullying takes on a sinister angle. This film is unrelenting in its neo-realist formalism, but is nevertheless a contemporary take on the genre.
