Come learn about salsa, practice your (newly acquired) dance skills, or just enjoy live music at
“Comunidad y música”!

This event showcases the ways in which music is a powerful tool to build community that has also
historically functioned as a method of resistance for marginalized communities in the Americas. It offers a short lecture on the genre’s historical significance by Génesis Lara (Assistant Professor, Chicano/LatinoStudies), a mini dance lesson by Mercedes Trigos (Assistant Professor, English Department), and a performance led by local salsa musician Rafael Feliciano.
