The UC MRPI project Routes of Enslavement in the Americas is presenting a series of events this Fall 2024 to showcase to the public the history of the movement of Africans and African-descended captives to the Caribbean, their reshipping to the Pacific, the ocean memory of those human cargo lost to these voyages, and how that loss reverberates into the present.

The centerpiece is the art exhibition "Descent & Transformation, Vol. I: Voyages to the Americas," curated by mixed media artist Kathie Foley-Meyer, Ph.D., from November 9 to December 21, 2024, at the Residency Art Gallery, 1245 District Drive, Suite 945, Inglewood, CA, Wed-Sat, 11 AM-5 PM.

We invite you to the art talk on Thursday, Nov. 14, 4PM-5:30PM, at Humanities Gateway 1030, where the artists Mia Arvizu, April M. Frazier, Ella Maria Ray, Diana Sinclair, and Nicole Maileen Woo will engage the audience with their work showcased in the exhibition.
