Please join us for a special screening of the documentary American: An Odyssey to 1947!
The film chronicles the artistic career of Orson Welles and his complex relationship to Hollywood and U.S. politics between the release of Citizen Kane (1941) and his sudden departure for Europe in 1947. Along the way, the film uncovers buried histories of Japanese-American and African-American life during and after World War II through interviews with members of those communities.
A reception will precede the screening at 5 p.m. in the HG courtyard, and the screening will be followed by a Q and A with the director.
The film premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2022, and has been shown at other festivals in Australia, Brazil, and Greece.
