2022 SoCal AI & Biomedicine Symposium
Details
Artificial intelligence has the potential to completely transform the healthcare industry. As noted in a recent Forbes article, "its impact promises to be truly life-changing." To realize this potential, however, researchers first must tackle a variety of challenges.
To better understand these challenges and how best to address them, UCI's Institute for Genomics (IGB) and the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) are sponsoring the AI & Biomedicine Symposium on October 14, 2022. The all-day event, being held in the Calit2 Auditorium, opens at 10 a.m. with the talk, "Unique Analytical Challenges of Microbiome Data," by Katrine Whiteson of the Microbiome Initiative.

About the IGB
The Institute is currently led by Director Pierre Baldi and Associate Director Xiaohui Xie, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. First and foremost, the primary mission of the IGB is to foster innovative basic and applied research at the intersection of the life and computational sciences and members of the IGB community are vigorously engaged in collaborative and ground-breaking research. In addition, the IGB is engaged in educating the next generation of researchers and practitioners, as well as in entrepreneurial activities to develop and transition research technologies to widespread and practical application. The Institute periodically participates in programs aimed at bringing new bioinformatics faculty to the campus under IGB's stewardship. Finally, the IGB is engaged in multiple outreach and diversity-promoting activities and periodically organized conferences, symposia, workshops and other events for the UCI and the broader community.
