Violinist Dennis Kim and pianist Sean Kennard lead an all-Beethoven concert including the first movement of his renowned Pathétique piano sonata and his Violin Sonata No. 5, famously referred to as the “Spring Sonata.”
The evening's repertoire will culminate with a stellar rendition of Beethoven’s iconic Piano Trio No. 1 in D major, also recognized as the "Ghost" trio, featuring guest cellist Jennifer Kloetzel (Cypress String Quartet, UC Santa Barbara - Professor, Area Head of Strings Program). It is believed that around the time this piece was written, Beethoven was discussing an opera of Shakespeare's Macbeth (the words "Macbett" appear near sketches for the Largo) which features a ghost character.
